Traditional acupuncture is based on the Chinese Medicine philosophy that health is not just the absence of disease, but rather the complete balance and unity of body, mind and spirit. The philosophy also recognises that your body has an inherent capacity for self-healing, and acupuncture can enhance the bodies' ability to achieve this.
Acupuncture is the use of fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body's surface to restore and maintain health. The fine needles are usually only inserted a few millimetres and this gives rise to a sensation, which should only be a mild discomfort at the most.
Modern science has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals called endorphins. These can assist the body in healing itself and give pain relief. The traditional view is that "Qi" (energy) flows around the body in channels. If the Qi is flowing freely then the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates. The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation.
Acupuncture provides a safe and effective treatment for a variety of conditions ranging from pain issues, arthritis, asthma, anxiety through to headaches, migraine and menstrual disorders, to reducing, managing or resolving these problems.
